Congratulations to Kathleen Flenniken, our state’s newest poet laureate! Kathleen is a FABULOUS choice for this position. She is a poet who articulates the often-overlooked subtexts that give our relationships (with each other, with the world around us) meaning. She’s also a terrific teacher (has worked with Writers in the Schools for years) and a generous participant in many of the organizations that shape the literary communinity in our region–Floating Bridge Press and the Jack Straw Foundation are just two that I’m aware of. She will be a wonderful ambassador for poetry. Read more about the position and Kathleen at the Humanities Washington website, or read some of Kathleen’s poems at her website.
I’ve featured Kathleen on KUOW a couple of times. Listen here.
And (full disclosure), she’s a dear, dear friend. I am elated to know that Kathleen will soon be bringing poetry all over the state. Lucky us!
