I’ve got the art of performance on my mind.
I’m performing a brand-spanking-new piece called “Crush” (more monologue than poem, truth be told) at Annex Theatre’s late night performance revue known as Spin the Bottle on Oct. 4. Show starts at 11pm (yes, you read that right) and tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for students. Annex is at 1122 East Pike in Seattle’s Capitol Hill.
For the past several weeks I’ve been coaching a terrific group of writers in how to read their work aloud, as part of a class I’m teaching at Richard Hugo House. Come hear them make the transition from page to stage, Oct. 8 and 9. Readings are at 7:30p in the Cabaret at Richard Hugo House, and are free. Hugo House is at 1634 11th Ave.
Oct. 8: Kim Kent, Anne McDuffie, Fran-Michelle Reichert
Oct. 9: Dianne Aprile, Lea Galanter, Dianne Grob and Kendra Rose
The long-running “It’s About Time” poetry reading series at the Ballard Library includes a craft talk. On Oct. 10 at 6p, I’ll give a talk on the art of bringing poetry to life aloud. Joannie Stangeland, Ruby Murray and Elissa Washuta will read their work, and there’s also an open mic. More info about this free event.
